Two tips for couples who want to have custom signs made for their wedding

Blog

If you and your partner are planning a wedding together and want to have a few custom signs created for this event, here are some things that you might want to keep in mind when having them made.

Ensure that the sign with your names and wedding date on it matches your home decor as well as your wedding theme

If one of the signs you plan to have made will feature you and your partner's names along with the date of the wedding, then you should consider picking a material, font and size that will fit in nicely with both your wedding theme and your home decor. For example, if you have decided to go for a rustic country wedding theme and your home features a lot of industrial, urban-style decorative features, then a sign made from distressed wood with hand-painted text would work well in both your home and the wedding venue.

The reason you should consider doing this is that this type of sign can serve as a lovely decorative memento of your special day. As such, if you pick one that suits your home decor and won't, therefore, look strange or out of place in your house, you can then hang it on a wall or place it on a windowsill and enjoy the happy memories that it evokes each time you see it in your home.

If you decide to take this advice and you plan to keep the sign in your home for many years, it is best to make sure that you also have it made from durable materials that are known to have a long lifespan.

Be practical when picking a font for some of the signs

If your wedding venue is quite large and the signs you plan to have made will not just be decorative but will also help people to find their way around this venue, then it's important to be practical when choosing a font for them.

The reason for this is as follows: whilst you and your partner will probably want every detail of your wedding day to be beautiful, it is important that these particular signs serve their purpose as well — that is, they should point guests in the right direction when they are looking for things like the bar, the bathrooms, the photo-booth, etc. If you opt for an ornate script font (i.e., a font that resembles handwritten cursive or calligraphy), then the signs may look pretty but might be difficult for guests to interpret. As such, it is best to opt for simple fonts that are easy to read.

Consider all of these points when you're considering having custom signs made for your special wedding day.
